Fan favorite Vickie Rushton was a strong contender during the 2019 Binibining Pilipinas competition, which took place on Sunday, June 9. She bagged most of the special awards—six of them to be exact—but had a hard time during the crucial Question & Answer portion.
Binibining Pilipinas judge Daniel Padilla asked her, "Why is mental health as important as physical health?"
Vickie's answer didn't go as smoothly as expected with her even stuttering at some parts: "Mental health is as important as physical health because of our inner being. Having self-love is important, and as a woman, I can inspire and empower the people to take care of themselves, to take care of their mind as well as their health because they will be as effective..." The buzzer rang to signal that her 30 seconds were up and she wasn't able to finish her answer.
During an interview with ABS-CBN after the pageant, Vicki said that she got distracted because someone from the audience stood up and "made a face" on purpose!
On June 10, the beauty queen's celebrity boyfriend Jason Abalos took to Twitter to defend her, saying that Vicki has always had a habit of noticing EVERY LITTLE THING. He wrote, "Sobrang prepared siya sa lahat, pinaghandaan niya talaga 'to. Hindi lang siya handa sa fans ng ibang candidates na nag-ingay noong siya na ang sumagot sa Q&A. Hindi ko sila masisisi, kung ako man siguro iba ang bet ko tapos hakot awards yung isa, makakaramdam rin ako ng takot."
"Pero tapos na guys, okay na 'yan. Happy ang lahat ng candidates sa naging experience nila, marami silang natutunan. Matuto na rin tayo rumespeto ng ibang tao."
