The much-awaited Friends reunion is finally happening with the entire gang—Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry, and David Schwimmer—coming back together, and they brought in a slew of big-time guests to appear in the special episode airing on May 27 on HBO Max. Included in their star-studded list of guest appearances are Lady Gaga, David Beckham, Justin Bieber, Cindy Crawford, Cara Delevingne, Malala Yousafzai, Tom Selleck, James Michael Tyler, Reese Witherspoon, and BTS, among many others.
It'll be pretty exciting to see familiar faces return with the cast as well as what the other cameos will be like, particularly that of seven-member music group BTS. While it may seem random for some people to have the South Korean superstars appear in the wildly popular sitcom, it's actually a pretty special cameo for the members, especially for the group's leader Kim Namjoon, aka RM.
While all seven members—RM, Jin, Suga, j-hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook—have a pretty good grasp of English, it's RM that's actually fluent in the language and has since stood as the group's designated English speaker during foreign interviews and press events. And in case you didn't know, RM was actually self-taught in learning the language. He became fluent in English by watching Friends (with an IQ of 148, it's not unlikely that he's quick to pick up a new language through a sitcom). "When I was like 15, 14, it was quite like a syndrome for all the Korean parents to make their kids watch Friends," RM says while on The Ellen Show in 2017. "Thanks to my mother, she bought all the seasons, all the DVDs. So firstly, I watched with the Korean subtitles and then next time, I watched with the English subtitles, and then I just removed it." Impressive!
The other members, particularly Jin and Suga, are also fans of the sitcom. From merely watching to show to becoming a special guest in its highly anticipated reunion is such a special experience many fans would only dream to have.
Directed by Ben Winston, the Friends reunion special was first announced back in February 2020. According to a report by today.com, the cast is coming back for an "exclusive unscripted special" which will air on streaming service HBO Max.
