While watching Squid Game, it probably took you a few seconds to realize that those "mannequins" in the VIP room were actual people. Yup, they were actors covered in body paint, which makes the scene even more bizarre and creepy:
YouTube couple Raye & Jin, who are based in South Korea, uploaded a video where they made Dalgona candy, the popular children's snack featured in the show. Raye, who is American, also opened up about how she *almost* appeared in Squid Game.
"If you're a foreigner in Korea and you're on social media at all, you get so many opportunities to do modeling, TV shows, commercials, movies, and stuff like that," Raye shared. "You don't even have to try, people will just send you messages all the time."
According to Raye, she got a message in October 2020 that said they were looking for a model who would be body painted and that the model would only wear underwear and nipple covers. The payment was $4,500 (P228,532) for three days.
Raye considered it, saying: "I thought, 'Damn, $4,500 for three days of work? I could totally do that! But the nipple covers and underwear made me really nervous. And with these jobs, you actually don't know usually what the project is. It's usually kept a secret until you show up."
And because she didn't know what the job was for, Raye eventually turned the opportunity down. "I declined it because...I didn't really want to be naked in body paint for some random project. But now that I know it was for freaking Squid Game, the number one show in the world, that would have been so cool to be a part of it. Next time, I'm going to say yes!"
What's the plot of Squid Game?
In the show, hundreds of players in dire need of money join a deadly competition where they have to play children's games in order to survive. It's currently number one on Netflix Philippines (and in other parts of the world).
