Do You Have To Be Passionate About Your Job?

Are you happy? Should you be happier?

"Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life." How many times have you read this quote? Or some variation of it? "Find your passion!" "Don’t settle for a job you hate!" "Make your soul come alive!"

Yes, if you’re lucky, you’re at a job you love and in an industry you’ve always seen yourself in. But the reality is that not everyone has this luxury, and it isn’t for lack of trying. Most of us have jobs that are less ~*aspirational*~ because we’re trying to make ends meet or still figuring out what exactly we want.

Sometimes, your only option is just doing what you have to do to survive. There is absolutely NO shame in doing unglamorous work that pays the bills. You aren’t less of a person/artist/musician/athlete because of it.

It’s also important to keep in mind that, though we admire career-driven women, not everyone is motivated by their careers. Some people prioritize work-life balance above everything else. Sometimes, being able to feed your family and working a "normal" desk job are already #goals. And that's wonderful!

Cut yourself some slack. Your passion does not have to be your career. You can still paint. You can still play in your band. You can still travel. And you can do all of that and still have a career you aren’t ALWAYS thrilled about. Your passion can be what you make time for, what you continue to do regardless of your job. No paycheck required.
