Wow! France Is Offering Scholarships For Academic Year 2021-2022 To Filipinos

The Embassy of France to the Philippines has two scholarship programs.

It seems like more and more scholarships are opening up for people who want to further their studies. In January, Japan started accepting applications for the Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship Program; so did the Stipendium Hungaricum, a scholarship program founded by the Hungarian Government. On Tuesday, February 9, the Embassy of France to the Philippines announced that they'll be offering scholarships to Filipinos who want to pursue master's or doctorate degrees at French public higher education institutions in France.

So you have two options: the PhilFrance-DOST Scholarships and the PhilFrance Scholarships.

French Government Scholarships: PhilFrance-DOST

For the PhilFrance-DOST Scholarships, which you can apply for through the French Embassy's program with the Department of Science and Technology’s (DOST) Science Education Institute, the priority fields of study are

  • Agriculture
  • Bioengineering
  • Bioinformatics (Medical)
  • Biological Sciences
  • Climate Change
  • Forestry
  • Health and Medical Research
  • Material Sciences
  • Medical Chemistry
  • Natural Resources and Environment 
  • Nuclear Application on Health
  • Nuclear Medicine
  • Veterinary Sciences
  • Virology

DOST requirements, French Embassy requirements, and all the application materials are here. 

The DOST will give awardees the following:

  • Monthly living allowance 
  • One round-trip ticket (economy fare) from residence to place of study (one-time only in the whole duration of the study)
  • Relocation allowance
  • Pre-travel expenses

From the French Embassy:

  • An exemption from public university registration fees
  • A health care package
  • Priority access to public student accommodations
  • An exemption from visa application fees

About PhilFrance Scholarships

The PhilFrance Scholarships, which was launched in 2016, is open to Filipino students and professionals with "strong academic, leadership and professional abilities, and who wish to study in France for a master's degree."

Awardees will receive the following benefits:

  • A tuition fee subsidy
  • A monthly living allowance (€700 or around P40,000)
  • A health care package
  • Priority access to public student accommodations
  • One round trip ticket from Manila to France
  • An exemption from visa application fees
