We may never hear the end of the great north vs. south debate—you know the one. But regardless of whether you’re a north kid that refuses to go anywhere beyond Makati, or a south kid always making an effort to meet your friends from Q.C. halfway, you can’t deny that the south is a great place to chill. Alabang, in particular, has a thriving bar scene, and is fast becoming the go-to for folks who want to unwind after a long work day, or to kick off their weekend.   1. Chicha Taqueria

    Chicha is a whole vibe. From the guys behind Katipunan’s Lan Kwai Speakeasy is this Mexican-Peruvian joint that transforms into a cool cocktail bar-cum-party place by night. With bright, Instagram-worthy interiors, choice beats, and a menu bursting with Latin American flavors, Chicha is the obvious choice for a night to remember (or not remember!) in the south.

  2. Bar Pintxos

    Location: Don Gesu Building, Don Jesus Boulevard
    Even with a location that’s quite easy to miss, this OG Bar Pintxos branch easily became a neighborhood favourite because of its laid-back atmosphere, their wide selection of spirits and drinks, and of course, their authentic Spanish fare. From jamon to salmon, uni to foie gras, their pintxos menu alone makes it a challenge to decide what to pair with your wine of choice—and we mean that in the best way possible.

    Whether you’re just about to start your day or looking for a good way to end it, Bungalow Cafe & Bakery is exactly where you’d want to be. Like a Pinterest board come to life, Bungalow is a brunch spot best known for their doughnuts and pastries, but they have a good assortment of beer, wine, and spirits for when coffee or pressed juices just won’t cut it. (Tip: Get yourself one of their refreshing signature cocktails. They’re especially great for day drinking.)

    Girls’ night or date night? Whatever’s on the agenda, Barcino is a good place to start. While they’re not the only Spanish resto and wine bar in the metro, Barcino’s commitment to recreating the Spanish experience for the everyday has made it a crowd favourite. It’s sophisticated but not intimidating; intimate without taking itself too seriously. Oh and their croquetas and paella negra are bomb—you’ll want to come back for those, too.

    With their entire space housing both affordable and premium bottles of beer, sake, liquor, and of course, wine, Ralph’s Wine & Spirits is your best bet if you’re down to try something new. They don’t serve food, but the good news is that their staff can order your meals from the neighboring restos for you! Talk about having options.

  10. The Nest: Dining in the Sky

    Location: Vivere Hotel, 5102 Bridgeway Avenue cor. Asean Drive, Filinvest City
    This restaurant perched on Vivere Hotel’s top floor has a spectacular view and is a nice little respite from the rest of the city. Their bar is situated inside the restaurant, but if you happen to drop by on a cool night, you might want to get a poolside table instead. And while most guests come here to celebrate anniversaries, birthdays, and other special occasions, The Nest is a sweet spot for casual gatherings, too.
