In the middle of Fort Bonifacio is a quaint Japanese restaurant named Rose that is just as romantic as its name would suggest. If you and your guy are craving something new to spice up your date life, this could be it!
A Sushi Bar Like Nothing You've Ever Experienced Before
The establishment boasts of the country's first floating sushi bar, similar to the conveyor belt sushi found in fast food Japanese restos. But, Rose's service is much more sophisticated: Their sushi travels on tiny boats that float around the mini river circling the large bar, straight from the kitchen! Occasionally, they even add floating candles to the river to enhance the ambiance.
As for the food, you can expect modern Japanese fusion cuisine with a Western twist. The restaurant uses French culinary techniques to give Asian food a unique flavor. We recommend you sample their floating sushi (P100 each).
Specialty items from their Maki menu include the Dragon Temple Roll (P250), made with sea eel and cream cheese rolled with wasabi flying fish roe, salmon roe, and black sesame seeds. Another interesting dish is the Salmon Crepe Roll (P275), which is composed of Norwegian salmon with spring onion, wrapped in a thin Japanese omelet. If you love sashimi, go for the Tuna Sashimi Rose (P100), which is intricately arranged in the form of the romantic flower. If you want some cooked meat and a Western flavor, try the Tuna of the Land (P250), made of prime chicken breast wrapped around green beans, carrots, and cream cheese, and coated with crispy Japanese breadcrumbs.
Japanese Fusion Like Nothing You've Ever Tried Before
Once you've taken your pick from their sushi bar, sample their "small plates" of appetizers, too. Our favorites are the Firecracker Edamame (P160), which is served with chili, garlic, and soy sauce; Organic Vegetable Tempura (P120), which has special fried onions and garlic thrown in for a surprise; Deep-Fried Scallops with Camembert (P180), made with fresh live scallops delicately fried with Camembert and fresh basil; Parmesan Chicken (P180), made with prime chicken breast meat marinated then baked with a parmesan crust and topped with tarragon and spring onions; and Crunchy Rolled Spicy Tuna (P250), made with lightly fried fresh premium tuna with chili oil, and served with Japanese mayo and classic unagi sauce.
When you're ready for the main courses (a.k.a "big plates"), you'll be glad to know there's also a wide variety to choose from. You'll love the Pan-Fried Squid and Organic French Green Beans (P395), which has an Asian interpretation of the classic French brown butter sauce. Your guy will want to try the Rose Beef (P695), made with tender Australian flank steak pan-fried in ginger-sake sauce. Then, you can share the Sea Urchin-Crusted Lobster (P1,295), a 600g masterpiece broiled in rich butter sauce. These dishes all go well with their impressive selection of imported Sparkling Sake (P595) and Japanese whiskeys!
After dinner, indulge in Rose's homemade gelato (P250), which is made by the owner, Adam Lieberman, himself! The original concoctions take three hours to make and four hours to freeze. Some of their enticing flavors are the dark and spicy Chocolate Flame, made of Belgian dark chocolate with Mexican chili; Thai Peanut, made with herb lemongrass, coconut milk, ginger, and organic roasted peanuts; Ambassador's Butter Cream, a rich, buttery ice cream with organic almond brittle (made especially for U.S. Ambassador Harry Thomas when he dined at Rose); and the creamy Himalayan Salted Caramel, a salty-sweet treat with with hints of burned sugar. It's the perfect way to cap off your romantic and delightful dinner date!
