Rose Quartz may be so 2016, but since it's such a pretty color, we have another pink surprise for you.

Del Monte Fresh Produce genetically engineered a pineapple and made it pink instead of yellow. This has been in development since 2005, and Del Monte will be growing them in Costa Rica.

According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), "Del Monte’s new pineapple has been genetically engineered to produce lower levels of the enzymes already in conventional pineapple that convert the pink pigment lycopene to the yellow pigment beta carotene. Lycopene is the pigment that makes tomatoes red and watermelons pink, so it is commonly and safely consumed."

The pink pineapples are also going to be much sweeter, which is why they plan on labeling them "extra sweet pink flesh pineapple." Welcome to the future, folks.
