We all know how stupid the desire for a thigh gap is. While it's managed to become just another way for women to feel shit about their weight if they don't have a sliver of space between their legs, in reality we all know it's nothing to do with how much fat we've got on our bodies, and is in fact to do with how far your hips are naturally set apart.
And there ain't nothing we can do about that, unless anyone's planning on inventing a hip-broadening surgical procedure or something (PLEASE NO).
But despite the fact we all know the concept of the thigh gap is complete and utter BS, it doesn't hurt to remind everyone once in a while, and that's why this new #MermaidThighs hashtag is so bloody awesome.
A much more body-positive social media trend than any of the others (A4 waist challenge, I'm looking at you), women are posting pictures of their touching thighs to social networks such as Instagram and Twitter, hashtagging #MermaidThighs along side them. And I don't know about you, but anything I can do to become more like a mermaid is music to my ears...
Great, so there's a plus side to not having the figure of a Victoria's Secret model? Having the figure of a mermaid instead. This is definitely a social media trend we can get on board with.
