Nudity and wearing “extremely skimpy” bikinis in public areas may soon be banned in Boracay, after a Taiwanese tourist wearing a microkini made headlines recently. “We will be discussing possible measures, but among those is to amend existing ordinances or pass a new one,” Councilor Maylyn Aguirre-Graf told Inquirer.net yesterday.

The Taiwanese tourist was asked to report to the police in Boracay last week, and she was fined P2,500. There’s currently no ordinance prohibiting nudity or wearing skimpy bikinis in Boracay’s public spaces, according to Inquirer.net. Instead, the tourist was fined for violating a 2003 ordinance that prohibits photographers from “taking lewd and/or excessively erotic pictures.”

The tourist and her companion left the island last week.
