Did you know that in the Philippines, one in four women has experienced some type of abuse from their spouses? And it’s only gotten worse during the pandemic. According the UN, there has been an increase in calls to domestic violence hotlines in many countries.
IMPORTANT!
Data provided by the Philippine National Police’s Women Children Protection Center (PNP-WCPC) showed there were 804 incidents of gender-based violence and violence against women and children from March 15 to April 30—all of which were reported from all over the Philippines. To remind you, March 15 was the beginning of the enhanced community quarantine.
Lunas Collective and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) have partnered up to launch the FamiLigtas campaign, which seeks to build awareness about gender-based violence (GBV) and provide sources for people who need help. Broadcast journalist Karen Davila and celebrities like Angel Locsin, Heart Evangelista, Shaina Magdayao, Pia Wurtzbach, Jodi Sta. Maria, Sunshine Cruz, Vina Morales, and Martin Nievera showed their support for the cause by posting photos of themselves with a hand raised, urging people to “stop” GBV.

Their posts are accompanied by information on how to detect gender-based violence—including signs and actions you may not consider “abusive.”

If you need help, call the PNP’s Anti-Violence Against Women and Children Division hotline, 8532-6690. You may also reach out to Lunas Collective on Facebook.
