Kane Tanaka, who holds the record as the world’s oldest person, just celebrated her 117th birthday in her home country of Japan, according to Reuters via ABS-CBN News. She had a birthday party last weekend at a nursing home in Fukuoka.
Kane was born on January 2, 1903 in Fukouka. She bore five children with husband Hideo Tanaka, and she now has five grandkids and eight great-grandkids.
She wakes up at 6:00 a.m. every day and typically spends her time studying math and practicing calligraphy. She likes playing board games with the nursing staff—and usually beats them, according to Yahoo News.
She has a sweet tooth and loves drinking coffee and fizzy drinks, according to The Daily Mail. She has credited her strong appetite as one of the main reasons behind her long life.
Her age is reportedly a symbol of Japan’s fast-aging populatio, with the birth rate dropping 5.9 percent last year.
