Attention, Commuters: Three Stations Of LRT-2 Will Be Closed For Nine Months As It Undergoes Repairs

The affected stations are Santolan, Katipunan, and Anonas.

Commuting is already a difficult ordeal for thousands of Filipinos and it’s going to be more challenging for the next nine months. This is because the Light Rail Transit Line 2 will be closing three of its stations, namely Santolan, Katipunan, and Anonas as it undergoes repairs.

The LRT-2 will remain closed over the weekend, but CNN Philippines reported that the train line will resume partial operations by Monday or Tuesday next week, running trips from Cubao to Recto:

Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) spokesperson Atty. Hernando Cabrera said in an interview that the Anonas station could be reopened earlier. He said, “Malaki yung damage and yung na-damage na part are really big parts na imported po sila. Mayroon po tayong spare pero hindi po kakayanin yung mga pangangailangan.”

The closure of three of LRT-2’s stations come after power supply transformers between Anonas and Katipunan stations and in the Santolan depot tripped, which resulted in the fire on October 3.

The LRT-2 has an estimated daily ridership of over 200,000 people and the management of LRTA has advised commuters to find other modes of transportation.
