ICYMI, Bela Padilla and Martin Tan have gone their separate ways.

Dating buzz began building around the two in August after they were spotted together several times. The pair finally made things public in September after appearing in a video by Meet Cutes Manila. In the clip posted on September 13, Bela and Martin were casually approached while spending a Sunday at Legazpi Sunday Market. Asked whether they were a couple, Bela happily answered yes.

Martin shared that they met through a common friend, while Bela said their shared love of movies was an early connection. "He said he liked movies, and I love movies also. So I was very, very excited when he started talking about films," Bela told Meet Cutes Manila.

Bela said that she loved Martin's willingness to try things with her and appreciated how he would plan trips whenever he knew she was going through something. Martin, meanwhile, singled out Bela's brain, beauty, and sense of humor.

Martin mostly stayed beyond the showbiz spotlight as the CEO and co-founder of AI-powered software company Tenext.ai.

The romance was also Bela's first confirmed relationship since her previous relationship with Norman Bay ended in 2025.

But just two weeks after publicly confirming her relationship with Martin, Bela announced that they were moving forward separately.

On September 27, the actress, filmmaker, and Cosmopolitan Philippines Women of Influence 2026 headliner shared a "quick life update" on Instagram, revealing that she and the tech CEO had broken up.

Rather than getting into the details of what went wrong, Bela chose to focus on the good they shared, the parts of their relationship that stayed private, and why they decided it was time to let go. And there are a few things about her breakup post that are worth taking away.

What We Can Learn About Relationships From Bela Padilla's Breakup Post

You Can Acknowledge The Good Even When A Relationship Ends

Bela began her breakup post by acknowledging how her followers have been there through her romantic highs and heartbreaks.

"I feel extremely lucky that every time love finds me, you all seem genuinely happy for me. Maybe it's because I share what I can, and you've somehow come to know me as your friend who falls in love, gets heartbroken, and who you sometimes want to hug, scold, or grab a beer and cry with."

She then reflected on what made her romance with Martin particularly meaningful.

"Martin and I have been dating for the past few months, and this was the first relationship where I was truly swept off my feet. We share the same love for films, food markets, our work, and, most of all, genuinely being together."

Even after the breakup, Bela spoke warmly about what they shared, calling Martin “one of the most fun, smartest, and definitely most charming people” she has met, and saying she’ll always be grateful for what they had.

A relationship ending doesn't necessarily mean that everything that came before it was a mistake. Sometimes, something can be meaningful and real—and still come to an end.

What You See On Social Media Isn't The Full Picture

Bela explained that she had kept the romance mostly private because it was also the first relationship where she "felt most like and unlike" herself.

And while we all saw the now-viral video of the pair, Bela said there was more happening beyond those brief glimpses.

"I'm writing this because we all enjoyed the videos of us in the Legazpi Market. We all saw a new couple, a bit shy and awkward. But what you never got a glimpse of is us having the best and also hardest days for a couple of months now."

It's a reminder that even a genuine glimpse online is still only one piece of a much bigger picture. The happy couple video can be real, and so can the difficult days no one saw.

That's worth remembering whenever we find ourselves making assumptions about someone else's relationship based on what makes it onto our feeds.

Sometimes, Loving Someone Means Knowing When To Let Go

Ultimately, Bela said she made the decision for them to part ways while they could still preserve the good they found in each other.

"I'm deciding for both of us to move forward separately to save whatever we can of ourselves and how we see each other," she said. "I think sometimes, loving someone also means knowing when to let go, before you lose the good things you saw in each other."

Bela doesn't go into the details of what went wrong. Instead, she thanked everyone who supported their romance and asked for space as they moved forward separately.

"Thank you for rooting for us from afar, and for giving us the space when you saw us around and now to move forward separately."

Bela chose to leave one last little piece of their relationship on her page: a video of what she called a "lovely, ordinary" night.

"PS: I know I never really posted or shared anything, but if I could immortalize one night here on my account, it would be this lovely, ordinary one."

As Bela's post shows, a relationship doesn't have to last forever to have been worth having.
