Great news, ladies! You know that one person in your life who shut you down when you were freaking out about that asshole who ghosted you? He or she said something along the lines of, "You probably just misunderstood what was happening." Ugh, as if you were the one who made a mistake.
Well, here's a huge dose of validation courtesy of the Merriam-Webster dictionary. As of this week, it is now ~*officially*~ a real word!
So what does "ghosting" mean? According to the dictionary, "ghosting (the noun) and ghost (the verb) both describe this phenomenon of leaving a relationship of some kind by abruptly ending all contact with the other person, and especially electronic contact, like texts, emails, and chats."
But, apparently, this term also applies to when you ignored someone on YM a few years ago, or every time you let calls go to voicemail. So before you completely hate on that dude who up and disappeared on you, step back and check yourself first.
Are you guilty of ghosting someone?
