If you're single and dating, you already know it's a wild world out there. But if you're a single woman, it comes with real risks. Sexual violence and safety concerns are, unfortunately, a universal part of the dating experience for many women, not just in the Philippines.

To help women stay safer while dating, a new app called "Tea" just launched in the App Store and Google Play. It's not another dating app where you swipe left or right for a potential match; it is a women-only, dating safety app where they "spill the tea" and help other women identify red flags in their potential partner.

What We Know About This Dating Advice App For Women

The app was founded by Sean Cook, whose inspiration came from a deeply personal place. His own mother was catfished while online dating. She unknowingly interacted with men who had criminal records. That experience pushed him to create a platform that would help other women avoid similar situations.

"Tea is on a mission to revolutionize dating safety by equipping women with cutting-edge tools, real-time insights, and a powerful community to navigate the modern dating world with confidence and control," the app's website reads.

"At its core, Tea is built on one fundamental belief: Women should never have to compromise their safety while dating," it added.

So, what exactly is the Tea app?

1. It's a dating safety tool.

Tea lets women anonymously share reviews, red flags, and dating advice about men they've met, dated, or matched with online. You can also look up phone numbers, run background checks, search sex offender databases, and even do a reverse image search on profile photos.

Another feature is you can set alerts on someone you're dating, so if someone else leaves a review about them, you'll be notified.

2. It's a community for women to share their dating experience.

On Tea, women can anonymously swap advice and warn each other about red flags in their relationships. According to the app, all users go through a verification process to ensure the space remains exclusive to women.

When you sign up, you'll be placed on a waitlist while your profile is reviewed. Once verified, you'll receive a notification granting you full access to the app's features.

3. It's a mission-driven platform that gives back.

Tea donates 10% of its profits to the National Domestic Violence Hotline in the United States, helping support survivors and fund resources for those in need.

Does This Really Protect Women?

Of course, like any platform, Tea hasn't escaped criticism. Some have raised concerns that the app could be misused to spread false information or damage someone's reputation without due process. Others have questioned whether it blurs the lines of privacy. While Tea has safeguards in place, such as blocking screenshots and verifying all users as women, the debate around ethics and accountability remains.

Still, one thing is clear: Tea is sparking an important conversation about the very real dangers women face while dating. Without proper mechanisms, protection, and access to justice, many women are left to navigate these risks alone. Apps like Tea may not be perfect, but they highlight the urgent need for safer spaces and stronger systems to support women in both digital and real-life encounters.
