It's been a good few days for inclusivity in the fashion industry, and Chella Man is definitely a testament to that! The artist and vlogger was announced as the first deaf transgender male model signed under international modeling agency IMG Models. The company's senior VP, David Cunningham, told Teen Vogue: "His ongoing efforts to promote change, specifically around diversity and inclusion in the fashion space, is truly inspiring and completely aligned with our missions here at IMG.”
With a growing following on YouTube and Instagram, Chella is providing some much-needed representation in an industry notorious for lacking diversity. When asked whether modeling was something he always wanted to do, Chella admitted that he never expected it. "I never foresaw myself modeling. Growing up in narrow-minded Central Pennsylvania, I did not consider myself beautiful... Now, I realize the conservative culture and lack of representation clouded my perceptions of beauty as well as my struggles with identity and gender dysphoria. True beauty is defined by confidence, pure hearts, and strength."
