Holiday Wear: Avant-Garde Frocks, Delicate Pieces For Feminine Chicks

Are you more of a fierce femme or a sweet dame? Two designers joined forces to give you unique options for your holiday wardrobe, whatever your style, as seen in a statement-making fashion show.

Philippine Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2012 will open this Sunday, October 23, with L'Oreal Paris as the beauty partner. The partnership between the two industry giants began last season, when Philippine Fashion Week presented local fashion's Holiday 2011 collections.

Aside from being the beauty partner for the fashion shows, L'Oreal will also present renowned designer Michael Cinco's fashion show on Monday, October 24, at SMX Convention Center. At the last Fashion Week, L'Oreal lent its name to the joint fashion show of two acclaimed designers, New York-based Lyle Ibanez and comeback kid Yvonne Quisumbing. L'Oreal Paris endorser Anne Curtis opened both segments, wearing fiery red outfits by the two designers.

It was interesting to put the holiday collections of these two designers in one show, as they look strikingly different. While both collections featured intricate pieces fit for the holidays, each are suited for a particular feminine style.

Lyle Ibanez's “Urban Warrior” themed collection features structured, avant-garde pieces mostly in sleek black, combining edgy and elegant styles. Hints of champagne, teal, and glitter were seen in his collection, amid the sea of dark, tough fabrics and leather. The collection emphasized a woman’s waist in metallic peplums, while his signature style, the glove sleeve, made a re-appearance on the runway.

Meanwhile, Yvonne Quisumbing returns to the local fashion scene with a bang. A stark contrast from Lyle’s dark collection, Yvonne’s bright “ocean scene at sunset” themed collection had an array of fluid feminine dresses perfect for December beach wedding parties and glitzy holiday affairs. Girly girls would love the softly draped pieces in red orange and delicate colors like beige, gray, and pink. Sheer fabrics like soft chiffon, satin, and organza were used to mimic the movement of ocean waves in this collection.
