After all the matte lipsticks, blushes, and eyeshadows, anything that's glossy or dewy is a breath of fresh air. The latest trend to take over the runways and our hearts: glossy lids. Extremely shiny and chic, this lid trend is the perfect way to change up our looks for summer.
So if you want to hop on the glossy lid train, here's everything you need to know to make it work in real life. Perfecting the right amount of shine and controlling the stickiness aren't that easy!
1. Use an eye primer
Whatever eye makeup look you're doing, always prime your lids before applying any color (or gloss, for that matter). This will ensure that everything stays where they should be!

2. Pick a long-wearing eyeshadow with a soft sheen
If you want your lids to really *pop*, use an eyeshadow that already has soft shimmer in it, blend it up into your crease, and make sure it sets—if your eyeshadow is still tacky, the gloss will end up removing it completely.

3. Mix a bit of lip gloss and lip balm
For the most wearable gloss to put on top of your eyeshadow, mix equal parts clear gloss and liquid lip balm, says Jane Iredale global educator Hannah Hatcher. Using a lip gloss alone will be too heavy and sticky, while using just a lip balm will feel too greasy, which is why combining the two creates the perfect combo. Gently pat it on your lids, blend it toward your crease, and voilà!

4. Swipe on waterproof mascara
When choosing a mascara to complement your glossy lids, always go for a waterproof one. If you don't, your mascara will smudge throughout the day and smudgy mascara isn't exactly cool right now.
