Until now, my lola's skincare stash always has a jar of cold cream in it. And I bet yours does, too. But what exactly is it about cold cream that all our lolas, titas, and moms are obsessed with? Read on!
What is cold cream?
Cold cream contains equal parts water and oil, and has other ingredients like jojoba and mineral oil to help moisturize dry, itchy skin. The catch? It's not suitable for acne-prone skin because it has a thick consistency and can possibly clog pores.
If you're wondering about the name, it's not because it's actually cold, but because it leaves a "cooling" feel on your complexion when you remove it. [Via HuffPost]
How can you use it?
Cold cream has stood the test of time. And it probably has to do with the fact that it's multi-purpose! Below, the eight ways you can include cold cream into your skincare routine!
As a makeup remover.
As a face cleanser.
At the end of the day, when your face is feeling dry and tight, switch your regular face cleanser for cold cream. Its moisturizing + cleansing properties will leave your skin soft, smooth, and hydrated! Tip: Use either a washcloth with warm water or cotton pads to remove the cream.
As a lip balm.
You only need a tiny amount to moisturize the hell out of your puckers!
As a nighttime moisturizer.
This thick cream will moisturize, nourish, and repair your skin while you sleep! Tip: Apply a thin, even layer over your complexion to help it absorb faster. ;)
As a face mask.
Whenever your skin needs extra oomph or bounce, apply a thick layer of cold cream on your face and leave it for five to 10 minutes.Continue reading below ↓
As a shaving cream.
Whenever you shave, your skin needs lubrication to minimize the risk of irritations and cuts. Not only will cold cream help with that, but it will also moisturize and soothe the area.
As an after-sun treatment.
Remember the cooling sensation cold cream leaves when you remove it from your skin? Because of that, it can help soothe minor sunburns and prevent it from peeling.
As an elbow, knee, and heel moisturizer.
Cold cream's thick texture will soften the dry scaly skin of your elbows, knees, and heels of your feet.
