WATCH: BTS Drops Their Dance-Inspired Art Film Music Video For 'Black Swan'

The boys are set to return with a new album on February 21!

On January 17, K-pop supergroup BTS dropped their new music video—a dance-inspired art film for “Black Swan,” which is a pre-release track for their upcoming album, Map Of The Soul: 7.

The song, co-written by BTS member RM, draws its inspiration from a quote by American dancer Martha Graham, which serves as the video’s opening: “A dancer dies twice—once when they stop dancing, and this first death is the more painful.”

Unlike previous BTS music videos, “Black Swan” does not feature any BTS member. Instead, the video, which is directed by YongSeok Choi, feels very raw and stripped down. It puts center stage the elaborate choreography by Slovenia-based dance group, MN Dance Company.

According to a report from NME, a press release notes that in “Black Swan,” “BTS dives deep into their inner selves as artists and faces the shadows they had once hidden. The song lends voice to their fears that one day, music will no longer be able to move or touch them. The very moment they come face-to-face with the ‘Black Swan’ within themselves, however, they are stricken with a paradoxical realization that music is all they have. It is a confession of an artist who has truly never learned what music means to himself.”
