Ah, BTS—recently, there seems to be no day when they don’t break records (or their own records at that). As they continue to set the bar high, the group is almost always on the news for their achievements. Case in point: Their recent concert, BTS Map Of The Soul ON:E, drew in almost one million online viewers!

On October 10 and 11, the K-pop boy group held a two-day live concert that was streamed on their platform. Their performances reached 993,000 million ARMYs from over 191 regions around the world (yes, that many!). BTS used technology to their advantage in communicating with their fans by using augmented reality (AR) and extended reality (XR). These gave the viewers a chance to be *on stage* with the boys through the “ARMY on Air” system. Some of them appeared onscreen and their voices were heard—similar to an actual concert! We were both impressed and close to tears, tbh.
RM mentioned that even though he has no religion, he thanks God that we’re living in 2020. “I thank God [because] we have this technology and no latency, and we can see your faces. I thank God that we can do this. At least we can do this. [On] this stage, it’s no one’s fault. We’re just doing our best.” Amen!
BTS Map Of The Soul ON:E was initially planned to be both an offline and online event, but due to the current COVID-19 situation in South Korea, Big Hit Entertainment decided to hold the concert completely online. Aside from the live streaming, the agency also introduced delayed streaming, where fans can re-watch BTS’ performances from the previous day. Tbh, I have never seen a *lot* of ARMYs simultaneously updating their Instagram stories on a Sunday morning (while holding their ARMY bombs, ofc).
In June this year, BTS held a similar event titled Bang Bang Con: The Live, which raked in 756,600 viewers from 107 regions around the world. The increase in numbers is real, and so is the group’s performance growth. BTS performed tracks from their album, Map Of The Soul: 7, which included phenomenal solo stage performances from each member (which we can’t really get over from, ahem). Also part of the concert’s setlist is the chart-topper, “Dynamite”, their debut song “No More Dream”, the hit “DNA”, and the fave of ARMYs, “Spring Day”.
BTS ended their concert by thanking the ARMYs for their unconditional love: “While waving flags of different colors, speaking different languages, and singing our own stories, we’ll keep marching forward together. BTS is not just the story of seven people. It is the story of you, the story of me, and the story of everyone.” Siri, please play “We Are Bulletproof: the Eternal.” while we weep.
