You probably saw the proudly Filipino-made animated films Dayo (2008) and Urduja (2008) when you were younger. The PH has come a long way since then, and I think we can all agree that Filipino animators and artists don't get enough recognition in this country. So, here's a list of local films that we should be super proud of:

1. RPG Metanoia (2010)

A kid named Nico (Zaijan Jaranilla) transforms into a hero whenever he plays an online role-playing game called Metanoia. When the game gets infected by a virus, Nico and his friends go on a journey to the online world to prevent it from taking over the real world! This movie was one of the entries to the 2010 Metro Manila Film Festival.

2. Manang Biring (2015)

Part of the 2015 Cinema One Originals film fest, Manang Biring is a dark comedy that's presented in black-and-white animation format. It tells the story of Manang Biring (Erlinda Villalobos), a woman who is diagnosed with Stage IV breast cancer and who only has six months left to live.

3. Saving Sally (2016)

This 2018 Metro Manila Film Festival entry is a live-action + animation film that took 10 years to make! Saving Sally features an aspiring comic book artist named Marty (Enzo Marcos) who's in love with his inventor best friend Sally (Rhian Ramos). The problem is, Sally has literal monsters for parents and Marty can't find the courage to tell her how he feels.

4. Paglisan: Never Tear Us Apart (2018)

A couple's marriage goes through a rough patch as Crisanto (Ian Veneracion) is diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer's disease and his wife Dolores (Eula Valdez) sinks into depression. Paglisan is actually a musical and was part of the 2018 Cinema One Originals film festival.

5. Hayop Ka! (Coming Soon)

This comedy film describes itself as "the first Filipino animated film for adults." It tells the story of a cat named Nimfa who gets caught cheating on her burly dog boyfriend Roger. The main characters are voiced by Angelica Panganiban and Robin Padilla.
