After gaining fame and critical acclaim through hardcore acting in True Grit, Hailee Steinfeld is dipping into the music scene. The journey's been pretty smart and subtle - notice how she's been appearing in more musical roles in movies (Begin Again and, of course, Pitch Perfect 2)—but now she's taking the plunge, releasing her first proper single this August.
Her first song, called "Love Myself" is an anthem to empowerment, self esteem, and—as the name suggests—loving yourself. All of which we can definitely get on board with. Here's a quick teaser, released yesterday:
She's following the theme over on her Instagram and Twitter, encouraging her fans to share why they love themselves.
It's started a pretty lovely conversation online, with loads of great responses:
@HaileeSteinfeld i love myself because i am worth loving— morgan (@STElNFELDS) July 22, 2015
@HaileeSteinfeld because I realized that I am enough for me and that's what matters— geno~ 93 (@aIbum5track13) July 22, 2015
@HaileeSteinfeld I'm not afraid of being myself, I don't care about what others think of me ☺︗ gabriela (@DivaaMcCurdy) July 22, 2015
Here's hoping this kicks off a full album of feminist, female-empowering tracks. And maybe, just maybe, a collaboration with Taylor Swift. Fingers crossed!
