Singer Janine Berdin made headlines in October 2020 after ML Salon and Spa shared photos of her recent hair makeover. Apart from talking about her lilac ash ombré locks, however, netizens also speculated that the 18-year-old had undergone a beauty enhancement procedure. In an interview with Vice Ganda for Gabing Gabi Na Vice, Janine opens up about her decision to "enhance" her look.

She reveals that it's only been around a month since the procedure. Her friends asked why she took photos right away, but Janine said that she was just so excited! Aww! In the past, the singer felt sad about how she looked, telling Vice, "'Yun po talaga yung hinanap ko po talaga dati kasi parang nasa-sad po ako lagi, kahit na alam kong sobrang blessed po ako. Parang sa sarili ko po nanggaling yung...ako mismo yung naging source of sadness ko dati. Kaya ngayon, sobrang saya ko na po talaga. Nararamdaman ko na yung saya ko. Ang dami ring nagsasabi na nararamdaman nila yung saya ko."
The host then clarifies that they are not encouraging people "na magpagawa o magparetoke" to feel good about yourself. He says, "May kanya-kanya tayong choices kung paano natin ie-empower ang mga sarili natin." Janine adds that what's important is that you're not hurting anyone in the process.
Speaking candidly about enhancing her nose, which cost P100,000 in total, she details that the pressure of being in the entertainment industry was a contributing factor. Janine shares, "Kahit yung mga advice po ng mga tao [ay] 'wag mo nang pakinggan kasi singer ka naman. Parang yung tutukan naman talaga yung voice mo. Pero naapektuhan po talaga ako...kitang-kita po na hindi po ako masaya dati."
Her definition of self-love includes taking the time and effort to make yourself feel better. And Vice says that everyone has their personal definition of self-love, and at the end of the day, to each [her] own.
