Yesterday, Julia Barretto released her second vlog entry. Fans were anticipating a house tour since Julia recently moved into her new home, plus the fact that she posted a photo taken from her walk-in closet (reportedly her favorite part of the house) the other day. Instead, Julia posted a BTS of how her YouTube channel came to be.

A good chunk of the video is a Q&A to show the kind of person Julia is—what she likes, what makes her happy. When asked about her favorite projects, she named Love You to the Stars and Back (2017), a rom-com she did with Joshua Garcia, the series Ngayon at Kailanaman (2018), and finally Between Maybes (2019), her film with Gerald Anderson.

“How can I forget? I loved everything about Between Maybes,” Julia began. “From the feel of the movie [to how] it was just so natural, no hysterics—nothing big was required in that film. Just true emotions. I liked that we were speaking through our eyes more than our mouths.”

Julia also explained that she could relate to her character Hazel, who, like her, is a young actress. She said of her Between Maybes character, “There was a point in her life and in her career where she was so misunderstood and she became such an angry person. She wasn’t the person that she was and the person she wanted to be.”

Julia went on, “I liked that there was a backstory. Kung bakit siya naging ganun. There’s pain, there’s betrayal in the past. But deep down inside, she has a good heart, she’s a good person. I love Hazel kasi when I was doing that film, that’s what Julia was going through. She was so misunderstood. She was very lost, and Hazel was very lost. Hazel in the film and Julia as an actress doing the film—they both found themselves at the same time. So I’ll never forget that film.”

It’s hard to say what pain Julia was experiencing right when she was doing Between Maybes. Julia admitted in her vlog that she’s a very private person, so she usually keeps to herself when something’s wrong. Her main outlet is acting.

For some, Julia can sound like she’s referring to being embroiled in and hated on about the breakup between Gerald and Bea Alonzo in July 2019. But she states that she found herself too upon doing Between Maybes. Considering that and her family having her back, it’s no surprise that Julia remained unfazed by all the criticism thrown at her.
