Omo! Here Are All The Korean Stars Getting Discharged From The Military This Year

It is a fact that a part of every South Korean man's life is dedicated to mandatory military service or "conscription." Before they turn 30 years old, they must enlist and be in good physical health so they can perform active duties. For those who aren't fit to do rigorous training, they can go for non-active duties (i.e. social work).

But worry not, 'cause some of our fave K-idols and actors are finally coming back from their enlistment this year! Yup, those 18 months went by so fast!

1. 2PM's Jun K (January 2, 2020)

When he enlisted: May 8, 2018

During his conscription, the 2PM member showed an exemplary performance after being assigned to the Special Warfare Command, and for this, he received a certificate of appointment.

2. Infinite's Sunggyu (January 8, 2020)

When he enlisted: May 14, 2018

Sunggyu was pretty busy during his term as he also took part in two military musical productions, Return: The Promised Day and Shin Heung Military Academy. When he was discharged, he held a solo concert for his fans (which was also Infinite's mini-reunion). Variety shows are already lined-up for this idol as well, including JTBC's Ask Us Anything.

3. Go Kyung Pyo (January 15, 2020)

When he enlisted: May 21, 2018

Our pretty boy actor from the throwback K-drama, Reply 1988, was immediately cast in the upcoming series, Private Life, along with Girls' Generation's Seohyun as his first comeback role after his military duties. Go Kyung Pyo is friends with BIGBANG's Taeyang, whom he met while in service. The idol even posted videos of Kyung Pyo on his Instagram Stories during a press con the moment he was discharged. Talk about a great friendship!

4. 2PM's Wooyoung (February 28, 2020)

When he enlisted: July 9, 2018

Another 2PM member will soon be meeting their fans when he comes back after his enlistment. Wooyoung followed Jun K's enlistment in May, where he served in the 21st Infantry Division.

5. Kim Bum (March 15, 2020)

When he enlisted: April 26, 2018

Popularly known for his endearing character So Yi Jung in the hit remake, Boys Over Flowers, Kim Bum revealed in 2009 that he was diagnosed with arthritis, a hereditary sickness. Because of this, he served as a public service worker in the military as he continued with his medication and treatment. Kim Bum is in the talks to star in tvN's The Tale Of Gumiho after his service together with everyone's favorite grim reaper, Lee Dong Wook.

6. CNBLUE's Minhyuk and Jung Shin (March 19, 2020)

When they enlisted: July 31, 2018

The drummer and bassist of pop-rock band CNBLUE quietly entered their training centers together in July 2018, without any media or fan send-off. Minhyuk and Jung Shin update their fans, BOICE, through Instagram on how they're doing and even greeted them on their ninth anniversary in January.

7. 2AM's Jo Kyon (March 24, 2020)

When he enlisted: August 6, 2018

Jo Kwon shared his ace performing skills in the musical Return: The Promise Of The Day in 2019 and was well-received by many. But what shocked fans was his physical ~transformation~ after enlisting in the military. Whoa!

Eunkwang continues to share updates about his achievements to Melodies, BTOB's fans, while still serving in the military. Apart from being assigned to the Special Warfare Command, he also placed first out of all workforces during their basic training. Good job!

With his excellent conduct, Doojoon was promoted to corporal during his enlistment. He also appeared as a host in a cooking program by the South Korean army titled Top Chef Army.

During his service, SHINee's leader lent his voice in military musicals and the army song, "Run Run". Onew also helped his fellow SM Entertainment labelmate, Xiumin, adjust to the military life. What a great sunbae!

Before entering the military, Changsub met with his 91-liner celebrity friends, like MAMAMOO's Solar, B1A4's Jinyoung, A-Pink's Chorong and Hoya. He also released his solo mini-album, Mark, the month before his enlistment.

Dongwoon finished his training as a top soldier and was commended by his army training director. During the completion ceremony, his family and fellow HIGHLIGHT member, Yoseob, joined in celebrating his milestone.

When he enlisted: May 6, 2019

The first EXO member to enlist in the military is Xiumin, who served in the 2nd Infantry Division in Yanggu County, Gangwon. He was promoted to assistant instructor after he attained high scores during his training.
