Lourd De Veyra Channels His Style Icons For Cosmo's January 2012 Fashion Ed

The satirical writer and musician showed off his modeling chops at our mod-themed shoot. See behind-the-scenes photos and read his thoughts on fashion, women, and more!

This month's fashion editorial "Mod About You" (pp. 116-123) is all about the return of fun, retro trends, and to spice things up, we invited two special guests to bring the element of humor to the shoot. Funnymen Lourd de Veyra and Ramon Bautista joined us at Mr. Jones restaurant in Greenbelt 5 to put a light-hearted spin on classic sixties styles, together with model Michelle Panemanglor.

In real life, the Radioactive Sago Project vocalist takes his style inspiration from classic fashion icons--"I guess, most of the guys who dressed up in the fifties," he said. "I'd probably say Cary Grant, Gregory Peck--although I don't dress like them. They just look nice to me. All those male Hitchcock characters." Hey, he got to emulate some of his mod idols during the shoot!

We interviewed the award-winning writer, blogger, and TV host after we wrapped up the fashion shoot. Read on for our Q&A with him.

How does it feel to be part of a fashion editorial?

It's absurdly flattering because it's a magazine for women. And it's really flattering to be basking in the reflected glory of Ramon Bautista.

How was it like to work with your co-models, Ramon Bautista and Michelle Panemanglor?

I've worked with Ramon before. Michelle, surprisingly, was not an ice queen like I would suppose. I don't meet a lot of models. She's pretty nice, warm, and has nice dimples.

How would you describe your personal style?

Geek, punk rock, jologs.

What kind of outfits do you like seeing on girls?

Anything that suits their proportions.

What kind of outfits do you not like seeing on girls?

Stuff that do not flatter them. But what's really sadder is stuff that's worn because of the dictates of trend and not because of convenience or comfort.

Would you let your girl dictate your style?

It depends if she has absolutely excellent taste.

What qualities do you look for in a girl?

Sense of humor, smarts, and a really nice rack.

What are good conversation topics on a first date?

Dogs, old movies, Tito, Vic, and Joey movies and recordings, and eighties action films.

What's the sweetest thing you've ever done for a girl?

Stay with her for five years.

Give three confidence-boosting tips for Cosmo chicks.

Number 1: Be comfortable in your own skin.
Number 2: Learn to cultivate a healthy sense of humor.
Number 3: If you can't be really knowledgeable, try to at least be conveniently informed.

What's your New Year's resolution?

To write another novel, but that's like saying "I have to get rid of tummy"--which I've been saying for the past 10 years. It only gets worse.

What was your best memory of 2011?

Launching three books almost all at the same time.
