Everyone's Obsessed With Hyrox Workouts RN—Here's Where To Try It in Manila, Plus Expert Tips From A Coach

Social media has its own way of convincing you to get moving, especially when your feed is filled with new sports to try. And lately, you’ve probably come across your fave celebs like Solenn Heussaff, Isabelle Daza, and Anne Curtis sharing snippets of their Hyrox journeys as part of their fitness routine.
Hyrox—a portmanteau of "hybrid" and "rockstar"—combines multiple workouts into a single race. It features the Skierg, Sled Push, Sled Pull, Burpee Broad Jumps, Rowing, Farmer's Carry, Sandbag Lunges, and Wall Balls, with a one-kilometer interval for each exercise.
Soon enough, you might just find yourself joining and giving Hyrox a go. But before you lace up your trainers, here's what a professional Hyrox coach has to say about what it really is and why everyone's getting hooked.
What Exactly Is Hyrox And Why Is Everyone Suddenly Into It?
Hyrox may seem like the next evolution of HIIT or CrossFit, but it's actually different in terms of format. Hyrox Coach Alvheen Crudo, Head of Le Charme Fitness in Hybrid Subic Bay and a Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), debunked this common misconception and explained that Hyrox is a standardized race format used worldwide—combining functional strength, endurance, and conditioning.
"While HIIT and CrossFit are both highly effective, Hyrox stands out because it follows a standardized race format worldwide," Alvheen shared in an interview with Cosmopolitan Philippines.
"Every event has the same structure, allowing athletes to track progress and compete globally on equal terms. It's less about technical or complex movements and more about endurance, pacing, and consistency, making it accessible to a wide range of participants," he added.
According to Alvheen, just like any other sport, Hyrox is no easy feat. Each race consists of eight rounds of one-kilometer runs, alternated with different strength and conditioning workouts.
"It's designed to be measurable, repeatable, and inclusive, allowing athletes of all fitness levels to test and improve their overall performance," he explained.
"Hyrox has gradually grown in the Philippines as more people have discovered its challenge and enjoyed the unique combination of endurance and functional workouts. In Subic, my team at Le Charme Fitness (Hybrid Subic Bay) helped introduce the format to the local community and share this experience with others," he added.
Individuals may register for a race via the official website. Races are held in different countries every month. This December, competitions are scheduled in Johannesburg, London, Verona, and Melbourne. Like other races, Hyrox has age group categories—so don't worry if you're unsure about your fitness level!

Hyrox Tips For Beginners, Straight From A Coach
Hyrox is designed to be inclusive, welcoming athletes of all fitness levels. An individual may choose from four different categories depending on their fitness level: Open, Pro, Doubles, or Relay. In the official website, individuals may take a three minute questionnaire to help identify their level.
For beginners, Alvheen shared some helpful tips to prepare you before diving into your first Hyrox race.
1. Build your aerobic base.
According to Alvheen, running makes up half of every Hyrox race, so endurance training should be your top priority. This will help you sustain your energy throughout the event and recover faster between stations.
2. Train smart and focus on form.
Proper technique goes a long way in Hyrox. Focus on mastering your form rather than rushing through reps. This helps prevent injuries and ensures you’re conserving energy for the entire race. "Efficiency matters in movements like sled push/pull and wall balls," Alvheen shared.
3. Maintain your balance.
And this isn't just literally when you do each exercise. Hyrox challenges your full body, so keeping a balanced routine ensures you can handle both endurance and strength-based stations.
4. Simulate race conditions.
Practice how you'll perform on race day. Try to replicate the event flow by alternating between runs and workouts in your training sessions. This helps your body adapt to the transitions, pacing, and recovery needed for each round.
5. Train with others.
Hyrox is as much about community as it is about competition. Training with a group can help you stay motivated, push your limits, and learn from others' techniques.
"Being part of a supportive community helps you stay motivated and learn from shared experiences," he added.
