The number coding scheme in Metro Manila has been suspended starting today, March 13, “until further notice,” according to Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) spokesperson Celine Pialago. According to Inquirer, the spokesperson made the announcement through a text message this morning.

Applying to both private and public vehicles, the scheme is implemented in Metro Manila to manage the volume of traffic on the road.

The advisory came a day after Pres. Rodrigo Duterte announced that Metro Manila will be put on community quarantine. From March 15 to April 14, travel to and from Metro Manila by domestic land, air, and sea will be limited in an effort to contain coronavirus disease (COVID-19). As of the latest count, there are now 52 confirmed cases in the Philippines, with majority from Metro Manila.
