Runway Report: 6 Glamorous Summer Trends

Attending weddings or big parties this summer? Get style inspiration from the dressy collections of six local designers featured on Philippine Fashion Week.

There are just some events that require dressier attire even in summer--and where a breezy maxi dress just won't do. If you want outfit ideas for your upcoming parties, fancy dates, work events, and weddings to attend, check out the latest trends presented at the Design Fusion show of Philippine Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2012. Six local designers showcased their respective new collections, each featuring the hottest trends of the season, which will guide you when selecting more wearable options for your dressy affairs.

1. Fresh White Fringes

Bo Parcon's white creations were anything but basic, thanks to creative styling and the addition of fringes. It's a refreshing take on the brown hippie and black flapper fringes we usually see, and it would definitely make a splash at any fancy event.

2. Crisp Cutouts

Dax Bayani's safari-ready mini-dresses and jumpsuits were given a feminine twist with sexy peek-a-boos. Since summer is all about skin, cutouts are a classy way to show off yours.

3. Funky Earth Tones

Dimple Lim's collection of earth-toned ensembles may appear conservative (think: matching blouses and pants, below-the-knee skirts, and ankle-length leggings), but when you see the crazy cuts and textures she used, you'll be surprised by just how funky neutral colors can be. Try out this trend by mixing pieces in different materials but within the same color family to give your outfits an interesting twist.

4. Black With A Touch Of Metallic

Jaki Penalosa reinvented the LDB by adding bold silver details that cut across her all-black creations, giving them a fierce edge. If you want to road test the look, pair oversized metallic accessories with a basic black dress. You won't be disappointed.

5. Red Hot Leather

Jot Losa's fiery red collection is perfect for fierce femmes, as he combines naughty leather and cutouts with ruffles and floral details. If the look is too couture for your taste, you can achieve a similar look by wearing a crimson dress in a feminine cut.

6. A Flash Of Neon

Xernan Orticio's collection of structured dresses, suits, vests, and sheer skirts in cream and fuchsia showed how a single pop of color can instanty make your outfit go from safe to statement-making. Tip: Adding one strikingly bright color to your attire is also a great way to put a fab summer spin on your tailored work wardrobe!
