You know those people whose Insta pics look flawless every damn time? Yeah, they aren't using the app's stock set of filters to get that glossy finish. They're using specialized editing apps, which are key to better photos, and better photos = even more double taps, which is the only currency that matters anymore. Ha JK JK but only kinda. Time to channel your inner influencer and get downloading.

  1. GoCam

    Price: Free

GoCam is so ingenious that honestly I'm surprised it's not more popular. Basically, the app enables you to take selfies without using your arm or dealing with a timer. Instead, it recognizes your body movements and will snap a photo at the EXACT right moment. Magic is real!

  2. KiraKira

    Price: $0.99

A favorite of celebs, KiraKira will add twinkly sparkles of various sizes to your photos. It's the perfect app for people who take Rihanna's "shine bright like a diamond" lyrics extremely seriously. Plus, every picture you take within the app will automatically save to your camera roll—convenient!

  3. GIPHY Cam

File this app under: Most. Fun. Ever. GIPHY Cam basically lets you turn your own photos and videos into GIFs, complete with weird backgrounds, text overlays, and stickers. You can upload your GIFs to messenger, or post 'em on the 'gram.

  4. FaceTune 2

    Price:Free (in-app subscriptions)

Say hello to all your favorite celebrities' secret weapon. FaceTune is the only reason people on Instagram aren't aware that I currently have a massive pimple on my chin. The app is most well-known for blurring away fine lines and wrinkles, and you can also work some serious Photoshop-style magic with it. FaceTune is both a curse and a blessing, but at $3.99, it's (at least) not a huge financial commitment.

  5. A Color Story

    Price: Free (in-app purchase)

A Color Story is a personal favorite because, like Snapseed (which we'll get to in a minute), you can do some pretty sophisticated photo editing with curves, saturation, and sharpness. But it also has pre-loaded filters that will make your photos look better without making it look like you tried to make them look better. So if you want your Insta vibe to be "influencer, but not thirsty," this is a must.

  6. Huji

    Price: Free

Otherwise known as the photo editing app every cool-girl millennial on your feed is obsessed with, Huji gives pics a vintage disposable camera vibe—down to the date stamp in the corner. Selena Gomez is known to use this app, like on this snap from the March for Our Lives:

Huji is free, but if you want to be able to upload photos from your camera roll, you have to throw down $0.99 (it's worth it).

  7. Snapseed

    Price: Free

Snapseed is truly the best if you're looking for a free editing app with zero in-app purchases. It's easy to use for those of us who are extremely basic (Hi, me!), but also valuable for the legit editors among us who want to adjust color, saturation, and sharpness. Basically, it takes a crappy iPhone photo and makes it look like it was shot on a fancy camera. You can also save your editing preferences, which is helpful for people like Kim Kardashian who care deeply about making a cohesive grid.

  8. VSCO

    Price: Free (with in-app purchases)

VSCO has all the fancy photo editing capabilities you'll find in Snapseed, but better ~vibes~ when it comes to filters. Plus, you can add "grain" if you want a bit of a vintage feel but the Huji aesthetic is too extra for ya.
