Here's What We Know About Ji Chang Wook + Kim Yoo Jung's Upcoming Drama (So Far)

In January 2020, Ji Chang Wook and Kim Yoo Jung were confirmed to be starring in a new drama for their first-ever pairing! Here's everything we know about the show so far: 

It's going to be called Convenience Store Saet Byul.

According to Soompi, Convenience Store Saet Byulalso known as Backstreet Rookiewill tell the story of handsome but clumsy Choi Dae Hyun (Ji Chang Wook), who quits his job at a large company and ends up running a convenience store. He crosses paths with quirky part-time employee Jung Saet Byul (Kim Yoo Jung) who is determined to "leave her spotty past behind."

The drama was a webtoon first! 

Just like Itaewon ClassWhat's Wrong With Secretary Kim, My ID Is Gangnam Beauty, and many others, this show is based on a webtoon! As of this writing, the online comics are only available in Korean.

There's a 12-year age gap between the two leads. 

According to Elle Singapore, Ji Chang Wook is 32 while Kim Yoo Jung is 20. One of Chang Wook's first lead roles was in the 2010 series Smile Dong Hae.

Yoo Jung started her acting career in 2004 by playing the younger versions of leading ladies in dramas. Here she is as Dong Yi in 2010: 

Who else will be starring in the drama? 

Soompi reports that 22-year-old Solbin from K-pop girl group LABOUM is in talks to star as Kim Yoo Jung's younger sister. My Drama List also says that actress Han Sun Hwa is set to play a character named Yoo Yeon Joo, the girlfriend of Ji Chang Wook's character. Sun Hwa's previous projects include School 2017 and My Husband Oh Jak Doo.

The cast had their first script reading in May. 

Soompi writes: "According to those present, Ji Chang Wook made everyone laugh with his comic acting as the unexpectedly clumsy Choi Dae Hyun...Kim Yoo Jung is also said to have brought the wild and unpredictable Jung Saet Byul to life." 

It's set to air in June. 

South Korean channel SBS confirmed that the drama will be their first Friday-Saturday drama. According to Soompi, the drama will start airing on June 12. There's no news yet about where we can stream it here in the PH, but stay tuned for updates!
