On January 13, EXO member Chen (Kim Jongdae) took the world by surprise when he wrote a heartfelt letter to fans, announcing that he is expecting a child with his non-showbiz girlfriend and that they're getting married. On February 19, Chen released ANOTHER letter, this time apologizing to fans "who must have been very surprised and taken aback by my sudden news."

In the letter, which was translated by Soompi, Chen said: "After worrying a lot about how I should express my feelings, it's taken me until now to write to EXO-L."

"I'm worried that I might hurt you through poor wording, but I want to first off apologize to everyone who has waited for all that time. I also want to express my apologies to EXO-L who must have been very surprised and taken aback by my sudden news."

He explained that before releasing the letter, he worried a lot about what he should say. "Still, I wrote a letter because I thought that I needed to personally tell all of you first…However, my unintentionally lacking and poor wording caused disappointment and hurt, and seeing you experience that made my heart ache as well."

"I don't know if my feelings will be conveyed well, but I'm sincerely grateful for the love that you've given me and I'm more aware than anyone else that I am who I am now because of that love. I want to apologize again for expressing my apologies to you so late. Also, I will show you how I'm continuing to try hard. Thank you."

27-year-old Chen debuted as a member of EXO back in 2012 and has since built a massive following, released best selling albums, and gone on tours with the boy group. He even recorded a track called "Everytime" for the hit 2016 drama Descendants Of The Sun.

After news of his engagement broke out in January, some of Chen's fans openly expressed their sadness and disappointment on social media, but others continued to support him. Some Pinoy fans even dedicated the song "Ikakasal Ka Na" to the K-pop idol to "cope" with the situation.

Members of EXO were scheduled to visit the Philippines for a fan meet on February 22, but the event was canceled because of the COVID-19 threat.
