Joshua Garcia is currently enjoying his solo career, and it looks like he’s having the time of his life. In a recent interview, the young actor got candid about his acting process, what it’s like working with different leading ladies, and the big projects in store for him.
ICYDK, Joshua is announced as the leading man in the highly-anticipated TV series Darna, in which he co-stars with Jane De Leon, who plays the iconic Pinay superhero, and former leading lady Janella Salvador, who takes on the role of the show’s villain Valentina.
Joshua just started filming on November 14 and had nothing but excitement about his new role. He says he looks forward to working with the cast, and that it’s his first time filming at a sound stage. “Sobrang excited ako. Especially yung sound stage kasi syempre di pa ako naka-shoot dun, ‘lam mo 'yon, as an actor kasi, achievement yun eh!,” the 24 year-old actor gushes.
Aside from Darna, his newest TV series with Charlie Dizon entitled Viral Scandal is also currently streaming on ABS-CBN platforms.
When asked about how it’s like to work with the rising star, Joshua only had kind words to say. “Ako naappreciate ko si Charlie as an actor, ano siya, focused din sya sa ginagawa niya, and na-aappreciate ko din siya sa set. Para siyang buhay nung set, eh. Kasi walang araw na hindi sya nagsasalita kaya siya yung pinaka-talkative sa set. In a good way naman,” he shares with a smile.
Joshua’s initial rise to fame came largely with his team-up with former beau Julia Barretto, followed by having Janella as his leading lady. When asked on the difference between working solo and being in a love team, he shared his take: “I think 'pag love team kasi syempre mas gusto ng tao na kayong dalawa lang palagi diba,” he says.
“The good thing about solo ka na pwede ka i-partner is may makakatrabaho kang ibang artista. Mas malawak yung matututunan mo sa co-artists mo.
“Di rin naman ako masyado nahirapan, siguro kasi madami na ako naka-partner, at lahat sila may natutunan ako. Iba-iba kasi sila ng atake eh,” he further explains.
Does he prefer the trajectory of a solo career, or would he rather be in a fixed love team?
"Syempre mas okay yung iba-ibang partner,” he answers. “Okay na ‘ko sa sitwasyon ‘ko ngayon na iba-iba yung nakakatrabaho ko. Parang more chances of winning kumbaga, kasi mas marami kang matutunan ‘diba. Iba-ibang tao yung nakakasalamuha mo, iba-ibang talent at acting ang mae-experience mo.”
Joshua admits to being single too IRL. Talks about him and Ivana Alawi as an item have been circulating on the internet, and Joshua isn’t shy to admit that he’s open to being friends with the actress-turned-YouTube vlogger.
