Adriana Lima has walked in 17 Victoria's Secret Fashion Shows; her first one was in 1999, and she hasn’t really aged much since then. Apart from obviously being blessed with supermodel genes, Adriana is an avid boxer. This badass trains hard and doesn’t give a damn about all the bruises. And we can all see that her body has graciously thanked her for it.
But she isn’t the only one who knows how to pack a mean punch. Gigi Hadid, Gisele Bundchen, Karlie Kloss, Kendall Jenner, and Joan Smalls all love getting in the ring for a little friendly sparring.
Boxing is such a great exercise because it uses and affects the entire body. Personal trainer Doug Sklar shares, “It requires you to move your body through multiple planes of motion—forward and backward, side to side, and rotational. Most people tend to focus their workouts on the sagittal plane (moving forward and backward), missing important components of a true full-body workout."
Unlike most workouts, you don’t have to box for too long. Most people think it’s about quantity, but even just a short 15- to 20-minute boxing sesh can work up a sweat and elevate the heart rate. “Boxing gives you both an anaerobic workout from the explosive power needed to throw punches and kicks and a [cardio] exercise from the oxygen you need to perform over an extended period of time,” says Mike DellOrfano.
Boxing isn’t just the newest fitness trend. In fact, it’s been a hit among some of our favorite local celebs.
