Go Beyond Your Limits With This Celeb-Approved Exercise

It's all the rage among Hollywood celebs, and now you can get in on the action, too. Find out what the Bikram Yoga fuss is about and where you can sign up for it.

We look up to Hollywood celebs all the time, but it's highly unlikely that we'll ever get to live the kind of lifestyle they lead. But, there is one thing we can do to emulate the hottest celebs in the biz: follow their lead in fitness and health. In fact, a favorite exercise of some of the sexiest women in the world (think Lady Gaga, Jennifer Aniston, Madonna, and Beyonce) can be found right here in Metro Manila: Bikram Yoga!

This form of hot yoga has been around since the early '70s, but it recently gained popularity thanks to the many athletes and celebrity practitioners who've inspired fitness buffs and figure-conscious chicks to give it a try. Founded by Indian yoga guru Bikram Choudhury (who visited Manila earlier this year), the 90-minute sessions are said to promote weight loss, increase flexibility, stimulate the organs, and improve overall physical health.

Beyond the physical benefits, it also caters to your mental health by requiring you to concentrate and focus on each of the 26 positions and two breathing exercises, testing your patience and determination. It gives you a place to clear your mind of all worries and center your thoughts on your well-being. For all you tired, overworked, injured, or illness-prone gals out there, this is the ultimate stress-buster and health booster!

The best thing about this exercise is it caters to everyone--young and old, male and female, physically fit and lazy couch potatoes. You can invite your friends, family, and even your guy to join you in class in a step toward taking better care of their bodies. You don't even have to be very flexible to begin with, because the poses will gradually stretch your body to the limit and allow you to discover the muscle flexibility you never even knew you had!

The main difference between Bikram Yoga and other forms of yoga is the environment it's practiced in. Each of the studios is heated up to 40 degrees Celsius, which is meant to warm your muscles so you can perform deeper postures and lessen the chance of injury.

Tips: Be sure to pack lots of water or sports drinks—you'll need it in that heat! It's also ideal that you come on an empty stomach; don't eat three hours before the class so the postures are easier to do. Be sure to pack some lightweight clothing, a yoga mat, towel, and a change of clothes, too!
