10 Habits You Should Break Before You Turn 30

1. Showing up late and thinking it's okay or even cute

It's laughable how much we rely on the concept of "Filipino time" whenever we're late to a meeting, appointment, or hangout. You can blame EDSA and the traffic all you want, but if you grew up here, chances are you already know how bad it gets. A responsible and respectable adult adjusts her schedule accordingly, even if it means leaving the house two or three hours earlier than usual just to make it on time. 

2. Buying groceries, letting them go to waste, and eating takeout too often 

Getting takeout is the most convenient thing for millennials, especially during those late nights, but it's also your biggest expense. Plus, if you're the kind of person who opens the ref feeling like there's nothing to eat even if it's fully stocked, you gotta re-evaluate your eating habits. Our metabolism slows down once we hit 30; your daily fast food dinner isn't going to cut it in the long run.

 3. Keeping all your money in one place

Investments: it's definitely something you need to look into. Your money shouldn't just be hanging on for dear life in one savings account, especially if you have a tendency to rely on that comfort. If you haven't yet, build your emergency fund, pick a retirement plan, and start an investment portfolio. 

4. Neglecting your skin

When you're young, the last thing you think about is your skin. And it's because you don't really see the negative effects of sun exposure until later in life. But we're here to tell you that the sun is more powerful than you think; premature aging, dicoloration, wrinkles, skin cancer—these are all serious concerns you need to be aware of as early as now. So start applying sunscreen before you step out of the house!

5. Avoiding the doctor

For working millennials, taking a day to visit the doctor to have something checked out is probably the biggest waste of time. We all think, Oh, it'll just go away on its own. It's a mistake to think you're invincible. If it's taking you weeks to get over a cold or you always wake up with some type of foreign pain, your body's trying to tell you something. Listen.

6. Choosing to be passive aggressive

And we don't just mean in a relationship. If your go-to move whenever something or someone bothers you is to avoid confrontation, you've got a major problem. Instead of making people bend over backwards to figure out what the issue is, just politely ask for a face-to-face conversaion (yes, offline). Attempting to confront someone online leaves too much room for misinterpretation. 

7. Denying compliments

GIIIRL. Compliments are the absolute best! They're an emotional currency, guaranteed to make you feel like a million bucks. The next time someone tells you you're glowing, smile, say thank you, and own it. 

8. Spending too much money on trends

Especially if you know, deep down, that you actually really hate whatever it is you just bought. There's a difference between experimenting with your style and flat out being embarrassed about wearing jelly sandals. A good rule is that if you can't see yourself strutting your stuff in a piece of clothing, it's probably not worth it.

9. Canceling on your friends religiously

Sometimes, all you want to do is go home, take your bra off, and watch TV until you pass out. But if you're already doing that six days a week, you can certainly power through one dinner with your besties, especially if it's one of those rare moments when the stars aligned and your schedules matched! Nobody likes a flake. 

10. Hating your body

Until you cherish your body wholeheartedly, you'll always feel limited. Think about it this way: it's the only one you'll ever have. And it's kept you alive this whole time. You might as well learn to love it—flaws and all.
