Cosmo.ph's Back-To-School Footwear Guide

Cosmo.ph's college correspondent shows you a fab selection of the latest flats, sandals, and flip-flops so you can strut from classroom to classroom in style.

No matter how simple or well-prepared your getup may be, the shoes you wear can make or break your entire look. It helps to know when your outfit-and-shoes combo is a fashion win--or a fashion faux pas.

To help you cruise through this semester in style, get some tips on what shoes are in style this season, and heed our advice on mixing and matching with key pieces in your closet! For the latest outfit options to go with these up-to-the-minute footwear finds, check out our back-to-school fashion guide.

Flip-Flops

Flip-flops aren't really considered proper footwear for school, but keep a pair handy inside your tote so you can change into it after P.E. class or before going home. Plus, it's always fun to shop for slippers; the wide variety of designs and styles available always makes for an exciting shopping experience.

Sandals

Go crazy in choosing which pairs of sandals to wear with your outfit. Wear colorful or neon sandals like Renegade Folk's pieces to add a burst of color to a plain white dress, or Gold Dot's pastel slip-ons for a flirty-feminine finish. If you're feeling a bit tough and want to achieve that sexy-rugged sizzle, try the gladiator sandals from Topshop.

Flats

Flats are a staple in every lazy dresser's closet. Not only are they super comfortable, they're also less of a hassle to wear compared to strappy sandals. Like any other pair of shoes, flats are made in different styles--loafers, ballet, brogues, slip-on, and so on! Try wearing bold and printed ballet flats from Steve Madden to go with your simple white tee and black bondage skirt. (Remember, your printed shoes will stand out more against plain clothes rather than against print-heavy outfits.) For a menswear-inspired look, borrow your guy's button-down shirt and wear your own jeans to pair with Topshop's leather loafers.
