We got an expert to share tips for giving your hair a subtle yet refreshing makeover. See the products we picked out to help you pull them off.

When we feel we need change in our lives, one of the first things we think of doing is changing our hair. If you're bored with your 'do but wouldn't like to commit to a drastic new hairstyle (i.e. from super straight to permed, from jet black locks to light brown), you can tweak your tresses with a few nifty hair tricks and products.

We've compiled eight pretty looks that you can play up for various occasions, which you can recreate with easy-to-follow styling tips from celebrity hairstylist Tippi Shorter, who's worked with the likes of Alicia Keys, Rihanna, and Jennifer Hudson. Tippi recently joined the Avon team as one of the brand's new Advance Techniques Global Stylist Advisors. With Avon, she helps create the latest looks backstage at New York Fashion Week, and helps women achieve these runway looks at home.

Read the short hair Q&A with Tippi below, and launch the gallery to see eight super chic 'dos, with tips and products for achieving them.

Q: What are your top tips and tricks for hair styling and care?

A: [First,] you can never condition your hair enough! [And second,] get a really great haircut. If your ends are split or frayed, it doesn't give your hair a good base for a style.

Q: What is the best daily hair look for a woman?

A: It's all about being an individual. It's great to try trends, but wearing what looks best on you is what works best on a daily basis. The style has to be something you are comfortable with.

Q: How can we translate the theatrical and elaborate hairstyles we see in fashion magazines into our ordinary lives?

A: The big, bold styles you see in fashion-forward magazines are just that–big and bold. If you want to wear a version of these styles, just take the bigness and messiness out of the hair to make it smooth and manageable.

Q: How can we make our hairstyle go from day to night?

A: Work with the texture. If you wear your hair straight during the day, then add waves and curls for night. If you have curly hair, then you can pull it half back and add in hair accessories.
