With a slew of hit K-dramas in 2021, would you even expect the Hallyu world to get more exciting than it already is? Well, it has. Korean superstar Gong Yoo (yes, you read that right) is confirmed to make his small-screen comeback in the sci-fi drama The Silent Sea. This is huuuuge news 'cause, ICYDK, Gong Yoo's last series was 2016's record-breaking drama Goblin!

What is the plot of The Silent Sea?
The Silent Sea is a Netflix original series so expect the plot to be unlike usual drama tropes. Soompi describes the drama as such, "The Silent Sea is a sci-fi thriller that is set in the future, where desertification has left the earth with food and water shortages. A special team is tasked with retrieving mysterious samples from an abandoned research base on the moon."
Who's in the cast of The Silent Sea?
Gong Yoo will be playing the role of Han Yoon Jae, a soldier and team leader at the Space and Aeronautics Administration.
The Kingdom actress Bae Doona will be portraying astrobiologist Doctor Song Ji An.
K-pop idol-turned-actor Lee Joon will take on the role of head engineer Captain Ryu Tae Seok. He works for the Ministry of National Defense, and he volunteered to join the mission.
Who's behind The Silent Sea?
The Silent Sea is an extended version of the 2014 short film of the same name, helmed by director Choi Hang Yong. Park Eun Gyo is the scriptwriter for the series. In addition, actor Jung Woo Sung is the producer of The Silent Sea.
Where and will The Silent Sea be shown?
It's going to be a very merry Christmas for K-drama fans because The Silent Sea is set to premiere on December 24, 2021, only on Netflix! Here's the drama's trailer to hype you up:
