Time really goes by so fast: It feels like yesterday when we first watched IU’s “Marshmallow” music video on TV in 2009, and we were amazed to see such a young girl bursting with talent. Now that we’re all grown up, IU has, too—she’s celebrating her 12th anniversary since her debut!

The Korean star took to Instagram how she celebrated the special occasion, complete with cakes, party decor, and a balloon that says: IU 12th Anniversary with UAENA (her official fan club name). Sweet!

IU, whose real name is Lee Ji Eun, celebrated her special milestone through two meaningful celebrations: First, she held a mini-concert for her fans on You Hee Yeol’s Sketchbook. Second, she donated 50 million Won (around P2 million pesos!) to the Korean Unwed Mother’s Families Association, and another 50 million Won to Snail of Love, an organization that helps those with hearing difficulties by providing them with hearing aids and cochlear implants.

In an Instagram post using her agency’s account, IU wrote a ~love poem~ to her fans: “Just like how violets are more beautiful when they bloom together, it’s better to shine together than alone. IU and UAENA shine the most when we are together. With our fragile but silently sparkling hearts, I made a warm donation in our name to worthy causes. Thank you, and I love you, UAENA.”

IU’s long list of achievements is definitely one for the books as she delivers both as a singer-songwriter and K-drama actress. In 2008, she released her debut single “Lost Child”, which was followed by a slew of top-charting songs like “ Good Day”, “Through The Night”, “Palette” (feat. G-Dragon), “Bbibbi”, “Love Poem”, and “Eight (feat. BTS' Suga)” to name a few. Apart from this, she’s also the voice behind the OSTs of some widely-popular K-dramas like Queen Seondeok and Crash Landing On You.

Her stellar career doesn’t stop there—IU is also known as a philanthropist in the industry. Last month, she donated to the victims of the heavy rains and floods in South Korea, and provided equipment for frontliners fighting against COVID-19. In 2019, she made it to the list (as the youngest!) of Forbes’ Asia’s Heroes of Philanthropy: Catalysts for Change for her generous donations. Her immense love for her staff members is another clear proof of her genuine persona, especially when she asked for her staff’s pay raise when she signed with her agency. There’s no wonder why everyone loves her—she’s just so pure and her heart’s always in the right place.
