Get ready to scream and maybe ~hit your seatmate lightly with a pillow~ because a Netflix series about The Grudge is coming! The Ju-On or The Grudge horror franchise started as two short films from Takashi Shimizu and later expanded into 13 films—nine Japanese ones and four American installments, according to IndieWire.
Here's everything we know about the Netflix series (so far):
What's it about?
Okay, so remember the OG The Grudge movie from the 2000s? It follows the lives of people connected to a house in Tokyo, Japan, where the gruesome murder of a housewife took place.
Ju-On: Origins, directed by Sho Miyake, will delve deeper into that story. Netflix writes that it will show us "the beginning of the 'curse' and give a raw look at the chain of terror that befalls all of those who come into contact with the house." In the show's first trailer, we see the ghost of an unborn baby, a girl meowing as if possessed by a cat, and a woman covered in blood. CREEPY!
Who's in the cast?
The series stars Yoshiyoshi Arakawa, Yuina Kuroshima, Ririka, Koki Osamura, Seiko Iwaido, Kai Inowaki, Tei Ryushin, Yuya Matsuura, Kaho Tsuchimura, Tokio Emoto, Nobuko Sendo, and Kana Kurashina.
When will it be released?
According to Netflix, the series will premiere on July 3, 2020, at 3:00 p.m. and will have six episodes.
Stay tuned for updates (and don't forget to turn the lights on before you sleep)!
