Good news, Hallyu fans: There's a new K-drama dropping on Netflix tomorrow! We're so ready to enter the Mystic Pop-Up Bar because it stars some familiar faces like Hwang Jung Eum (She Was Pretty, Lucky Romance, and Kill Me, Heal Me), Choi Won Young (Sky Castle and Kill Me, Heal Me), and of course, Yook Sung Jae of BTOB! While he announced his military enlistment after his birthday, there's no reason to be sad because we will still get to watch him in a K-drama.
Wanna know more about Yook Sung Jae? Here are some fun facts:
1. He plays Han Kang Bae in Mystic Pop-Up Bar.
His character ends up working at a pojangmacha that can travel to different worlds and even enter their customers' dreams. Sounds intriguing.
2. He just turned 25 on May 2 so that makes him a Taurus.
3. Before acting, Sung Jae debuted as a member of K-pop boy group BTOB in 2012.
He eventually became the third-gen leader. Aside from that, Sung Jae is also a member of their sub-group named BTOB Blue.
4. He's been to PH several times already!
Before becoming famous, Sung Jae studied English in Cebu for a month. He then returned to the Philippines with his fellow BTOB members for their Manila concerts in 2014, 2015, and 2017. Sung Jae also had his first solo fan meeting in 2018. We'd like to assume that Pinays like us have a ~special~ place in his heart.
Here's a clip of him speaking in Tagalog and Bisaya:
5. He gained K-drama popularity in Who Are You School 2015.
6. Let's not forget his undeniable chemistry with Red Velvet's Joy in We Got Married.
They even won Best Couple Award at the 2015 MBC Entertainment Awards. Sung Jae also won as Best Male Newcomer. Truly, he has the makings of a leading man!
7. But he also stole our hearts in Goblin.
He's like the mischievous little brother of Gong Yoo and Lee Dong Wook. In the series, he plays Yoo Deok Hwa, a chaebol heir who lives with the Goblin and Grim Reaper. We miss this trio!
8. Even though he's been busy with K-dramas, Sung Jae still made time for his solo music.
In December 2019, he launched 3x2=6, a six-track project featuring songs like "Yook", "From Winter", "W.A.U (What About U)", "Chicken", "HMHN", and "Hypnotized".
Now, there's an explanation behind the math equation. Two tracks were revealed every month for three months. Plus, the number "6" has a special meaning because it translates to "yook" in Korean and also makes a reference to Sung Jae's last name. All six tracks are also in Sung Jae's debut solo album Yook O'Clock which was released in March. Give it a stream while you wait for his new K-drama!
