7 Ways To Feel Lighter And Less Bloated

Go easy on your food.

Some days you just feel heavy and bloated, but your body shape hasn't really changed. If it's not because of PMS, it's probably caused by gas, water retention, or having eaten too much. Here are ways to beat the bloat:

1. Hydrate yourself with hot lemon water.

This will stimulate your digestive system to work well, hence helping the food you eat go through your body.

2. Avoid the sweets.

Gas-producing bacteria in your gastrointenstinal tract feeds on sugar. When you have those in your belly, it'll really bloat!

3. Have some probiotics.

Yogurt is a good source of probiotics, but you're better of skipping the ones in supermarkets since they're loaded with sugar and can make you feel more bloated (refer to #2).

Fermented food like sauerkraut, pickles, miso, and kimchi are loaded with the good bacteria that will ease bloating and constipation.

4. Eat pineapple or papaya.

The enzymes bromelain (found in pineapples) and papain (in papayas) ease digestion by helping in the breakdown of protein. 

5. Keep drinking water.

Bloating can be caused by fluid retention, but it can be fixed by drinking more water. By drinking more, your body will release some of those fluids (when you pee) so you feel less bloated.

6. Eat slowly.

If you eat fast and don't chew your food properly, you can swallow air that'll lead to bloating. Also, since digestion begins in the mouth, chewing your food more can decrease your chances of feeling heavy in the gut.

Let's not forget that eating slowly will make you eat less!

7. Drink tea after dinner

Spices like cinnamon and ginger eases your digestive system, so have ginger tea or something similar like mint tea after dinner.
