Zac Efron's 'Baywatch' Diet Helped Him Stop Craving Junk Food

Plus, you know, he's the hottest he's ever been.

We always hear about Hollywood celebs who are so ~*method*~ that they really commit to transforming themselves for a character: Rachel McAdams has had every possible hairstyle on earth, and Anne Hathaway was on a lettuce diet for her role in Les Miserables. 

And Zac Efron is no different. On his Twitter, the High School Musical veteran explained that his diet consisted of "[nine] days of absolutely zero carbs & sugar. Only organic grass fed/free range protein and organic leafy greens."

That might sound miserable to all the chocolate lovers out there, but Zac told Men's Fitness, "After a while your body stops craving junk food, and you look forward to these meals. There's this trigger that happens after two or three weeks of dieting and eating healthy food, where your body switches its primary energy source from burning mainly carbohydrates to burning fat."

Dr. Tanya Zuckerbrot echoes, "If you eat refined carbs—[junk food]—regularly, your body starts to expect a pattern of glucose. The one day you choose not to have carbs, the body has secreted the insulin anyway—that's the vicious cycle." When you cut junk food out of your life, and that sugar spike is no longer experienced, you stop the cravings as well. Even your taste buds begin adjusting to the new food you're eating, which is what happened to our Troy Bolton.

So, yes, Zac apparently craves kale, beets, and sweet potato now. While we're not sure that we'll ever get to that level of love for healthy eating, we're stoked to see how much Zac's body changed for Baywatch… You know, for research purposes.
