Sunflower oil is one of the first all-around no-frills oils to enter the beauty market. It has been a godsend for many Pinays for some time now and it’s easy to figure out why: The price (you can get one for under P200!), the simplicity (it doesn’t contain irritants or preservatives), and the fact that it has a myriad of benefits make this the du jour oil you need to have.
We just can’t stop using this day and night! But what is it really good for? And is this suitable for just anyone? (Hint: The answer is yes—even for babies!)
We round up the reasons we love this multipurpose oil below:
It acts as a natural antioxidant.
Sunflower oil contains antioxidants such as Vitamin A and E, which are effective in protecting the skin from environmental stressors (like the sun) and free radicals that are harmful to the skin. And as we all know, a good antioxidant delays premature aging and wrinkles!
It retains moisture.
The emollient properties keep skin hydrated for a longer period of time by trapping moisture inside skin cells. We love that it also helps maintain the skin’s natural barrier making dryness a thing of the past.
It's good for acne-prone skin.
It's beneficial for problematic skin for a number of reasons. It has linoleic acid, a fatty acid that helps protect the skin from germs and acne-causing bacteria. Also, the high content of Vitamins A, C, and D make it effective in combatting acne. Plus, this non-comedogenic oil doesn’t clog pores. A true winner in our book!
It can soothe and heal the skin.
It has anti-inflammatory properties that relieve skin from skin concerns such as itchiness, redness, roughness, and even eczema.
It does wonders for the hair.
Use it as a hair oil or hair mask weekly and you’ll achieve a soft and shiny (read: zero frizz) mane worthy of an IG photo! Not only that but the high content of vitamins and minerals help to produce a healthy scalp and hair growth—perfect for those with thinning hair.
