Aside from the usual kilig K-dramas we love watching, we're also huge fans of terrifying shows that can keep us up all night. We get freaked out by the jump scares and hair-raising soundtracks, pero manonood pa rin naman kami, lol. From vengeful ghosts, bizarre neighbors, and religious cults, trust Koreans to make series that will keep you up all night.

No need to wait for Halloween—here's a list of must-watch horror K-dramas that you can stream NOW on Netflix and Viu:

1. The  Master's Sun (2013)

Who’s in it: Gong Hyo JinSo Ji Sub, Seo In Guk

Where you can watch it: Netflix, Viu

The short plot: After an accident, Tae Gong Shil was *cursed* with the ability to see ghosts who have unfulfilled wishes. Because of this, she develops insomnia and finds it hard to function normally in life.

What makes it scary: All of the ghosts here are guaranteed to creep you out, promise! One of them is a "vanity spirit" with a smile so wicked, I watched his scenes with only one eye open.


2. Strangers From Hell (2019)

Who’s in it: Im Siwan, Lee Dong Wook

Where you can watch it: Netflix, Viu

The short plot: Strapped for cash, Yoon Jong Woo decides to live in a substandard apartment when he moves to Seoul. As time goes by, he becomes suspicious of his peculiar neighbors who start affecting his sanity.

What makes it scary: Mysterious disappearances, twins that pop out of nowhere, and a handsome dentist with a thing for pulling out molars...without your consent. 

P.S: The webtoon version is just as scary. Don't read it at 2 a.m. like me, okay? You're welcome.

3. Mouse (2021)

The short plot: What would you do if you find out that the child you're bearing has the DNA of a psychopath killer? Mouse follows the life of serial killers, policemen, and people who fall victim to wicked people.

What makes it scary: In one episode, a psychopath killer hides the heads of his executed victims inside snowmen. Yup, you read that right: SNOWMEN.

4. Hotel Del Luna (2019)

Who’s in it: IU, Yeo Jin Goo, Lee Do Hyun

Where you can watch it: Netflix, Viu

The short plot: Far from the luxurious accommodation that you have in mind, the hotel in this K-drama can only be seen at night, and their guests are spirits who still hold grudges from their past lives. If you're into a less-terrifying and more mystical story, this one is for you.

What makes it scary: There's this one ghost who literally has no eyes...just two dark holes in the middle of her face. The image of her still lives in my mind, tbh.

5. Save Me (2017)

Who’s in it: Seo Ye Ji, Ok Taecyeon, Woo Do Hwan, Jo Sung Ha

The short plot: As described by Netflix, Save Me is about "four young men who come to the rescue of a former classmate whose family has been sucked into the clutches of a religious cult and its charismatic leader." 

What makes it scary: I don't know about you but anything that involves religious cults really sends shivers down my spine. Plus, the title itself is a call for help, what can make it scarier than that?

6. Kingdom (2019)

Who’s in it: Ju Ji Hoon, Bae Doona, Kim Sung Kyu

Where you can watch it: Netflix

The short plot: With the Joseon Dynasty as the setting, a zombie plague enters the kingdom of Crown Price Lee Chang and everyone is rattled as they aim for survival. 

What makes it scary: A swarm of zombies who can run faster than track field athletes. Need we say more?


7. Nightmare High (2017)

Who’s in it: Kim So Hyun, BTOB’s Lee Minhyuk, Seo Shin Ae, Uhm Ki Joon

The short plot: Having a new substitute teacher in class seems fun, right? Well, yes, but not until the students' deep and dark wishes start coming true. 

What makes it scary: Can you just imagine your heart's ultimate desire getting fulfilled, only to realize that it leads to your death? I'm...

8. The Guest (2018)

The short plot: A crime-fighting priest, a psychic, and a detective work together to conquer a demon called sohn (guest), after it killed their respective families.

What makes it scary: Demons + exorcism = Downright horrifying. 

9. The Ghost Detective (2018)

Who’s in it: Park Eun Bin, Choi Daniel, Lee Joo Young, Lee Ji Ah,

The short plot: True to its title, The Ghost  Detective circles around a sleuth who is after solving paranormal cases with his assistant, who happens to have a sister who took her own life.

What makes it scary: You will never listen to the song "The Lady In Red" the same way again because of a woman who kept appearing in every case the detective attended to. Also, get ready for the plot twist that will leave you dumbfounded.

10. The Cursed (2020)

Who’s in it: Sung Dong Il, Uhm Ji Won, Jeong Ji So

The short plot: A K-drama from the writer behind Train To Busan, this supernatural thriller brings us to the story of a girl who can curse anyone with death through a photo, personal belonging, and their name written in Chinese characters.
